Oil Economy Focus Rapid Review

Researchers from Aarhus University in Denmark visited 82 car dealerships across Scandinavia posing as potential shoppers. They found that sales personnel were dismissive of electric vehicles and encouraged the purchase of petrol and diesel vehicles instead. They also interviewed 30 different industry experts who described EVs as both harder to sell and less incentivised. The study also found that sales personnel did not receive adequate training on electric vehicles to support effective sales strategies. The study concluded that industry and policy incentives were necessary to create the right market conditions in order to encourage sales personnel to promote, rather than dismiss, electric vehicles.
