Oil Economy Focus Rapid Review

Woodmac expects that in a two-degree world green hydrogen will become a long-run game changer, emerging as a key competitor to natural gas consumption towards the end of 2040. In such a world, about 145 billion cubic meters per annum (bcma) of additional LNG will be needed compared with the 450 bcma of Woodmac’s basecase outlook. The scenario leaves about 12 trillion cubic meters of discovered gas reserves stranded, a figure that is more than three times the amount of gas produced globally in 2020.
