In order to keep up with Tesla’s growth in China South Korea’s LG Chem Ltd plans to more than double production capacity of battery cells that it makes in China for Tesla electric vehicles. The increased Chinese output will also be shipped to Tesla factories in Germany and the United States. LG Chem supplies battery cells for Tesla’s Model 3 sedan built in Shanghai where current annual production capacity is 250,000 cars. The Tesla Model Y will also be made at the plant next year.
