Oil Economy Focus Rapid Review

YPF’s 2018 hydrocarbon production will likely fall by 3% to 4% on the year as low natural gas demand forces it to close wells and shift its focus to Vaca Muerta shale oil. To shield its overall production from the seasonal fluctuations in gas demand, the company is working on projects to boost sales, helping it to widen the development of Vaca Muerta, one of the world’s largest shale plays. YPF has started exporting gas by pipeline to Chile, where it expects sales to reach 1 million to 2 million cu m/d in the short term, and the next step is to install a floating liquefaction barge in 2019 to export up to 2.5 million cu m/d of LNG.
